Presentation: Lepow Medical Student Research Day
Yvonne Chasser
Cleveland, OH
February 2012
Mentored 3rd year medical student Yvonne Chasser's poster entitled, "Adolescent Substance Use and Psychiatric Comorbidity: What Factors Predict First Use and PTSD?" was presented at 2012 Irwin H. Lepow Medical Student Research Day sponsored by Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine/The Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Yvonne's presentation was one of the select 100 presentations featured in the Wolstein Research Building Atrium in downtown Cleveland.
Yvonne's research showed that adults with substance dependency were more likely to have had their first experience with alcohol after having a PTSD trauma occurring before the age of 13. Additionally, pre-existing PTSD before illicit substance use was significantly associated with a history of sexual abuse and self-harm.
