"The piece of art came as a result of my desire to create an artwork to promote social change. I chose the theme because of my relatives who smoke, which has bothered me for a long time. I realized I wanted to produce a piece that would encourage them to quit smoking. Originally, the composition was only to include the male figure, but I decided to add the woman and child to symbolize the impact that smoking has on others. The face in the smoke echoes the desire for the smoker to quit his habit and the resulting anguish he feels over this anxiety. The style of the figures is similar to what is seen in animation and illustration. I chose this style in order to attract the viewer's attention yet, once the viewer considers the entire composition, he or she will understand the serious nature of this social problem."
